Charge your EV at Monarto to win a FREE family safari pass

30 June, 2023

The RAA Charge network’s newest electric vehicle charging site at Monarto Safari Park officially comes online today, and to celebrate EV drivers can redeem one of 10 FREE Safari Park family passes just for charging their car.

The new, 7kW Destination-speed charging site at Monarto means EV drivers can now leave their EV on charge while exploring the world’s largest safari park outside of Africa.

RAA Chief Executive Officer Nick Reade said the first 10 people to charge their vehicle at Monarto and post about it on social media would win a Safari family pass valued at $115.

“We’re excited to be continuing the rollout of the RAA Charge network into the South Australian regions,” Mr Reade said.

“Once complete in 2024, the network will comprise 140 charging sites spanning from Mount Gambier to the Border Village, right up to Marla in the north and all the regional and remote towns in between.

“The RAA Charge network will help to open up all areas of our great state to electric vehicle drivers, making range anxiety a thing of the past and ensuring they can easily get to and from attractions like the Monarto Safari Park.

Mr Reade said RAA with 25% of the network now installed and operational and the first 150kW Rapid and 200kW Ultra-rapid charging sites now under construction, the roll out of the RAA Charge network was well underway.

“Since we launched our first charging sites in March, we’ve provided almost 13,000kWh of renewable energy to EV drivers across South Australia, and we’ve just recorded our 1000th charging session,” Mr Reade said.

Monarto Safari Park Director Peter Clark said providing a charging option for EV drivers made sense given the importance of the Park for South Australian tourism.

“We are excited to entice electric vehicle drivers to Monarto Safari Park now that we have four RAA EV charging units in our carpark,” Mr Clark said.

“Goodness knows we are used to power dynamics at Monarto Safari Park! Just look at the feisty female hyenas, the magnificent pride of lions and the powerhouse that is the Southern White Rhino!

“As a conservation charity, we are driving visitors towards a more sustainable future.

“We use solar power, recycled and efficient materials in the build of the new Visitor Centre, grow food and crops for species and visitors and can now welcome electric vehicles with the RAA EV charging units.”
