It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas travel

24 November, 2023

With the festive season in full swing, RAA Travel reveals some last-minute Christmas getaways.

RAA Travel General Manager Gina Norman said 2 million Australians are preparing to jet set overseas this December, with many heading to Asia, Europe, Bali and Japan.

“At RAA Travel in particular, we are seeing New Zealand as a popular destination for South Australians and a lot of people are trading in our Summer weather for a white Christmas in Europe,” Ms Norman said.

“With school holidays and many South Aussies taking time off work, it’s a busy time of year to be travelling – so we highly recommend creating a checklist regardless of whether you’re jetting off or going on a road trip.”

“When it comes to planning your airport arrival, allow yourself extra time at the airport for check in and security lines, which are always longer during this time of the year.

“Make sure your passports are valid for the destination you’ve booked, in addition to relevant visas for the country you’re entering.

“It’s also important to consider travel insurance and making sure the right level of cover has been issued, especially if you’re travelling to the northern hemisphere engaging in snow sports.”

For those who have not yet booked a trip away over Christmas, Gina Norman said there is still some availability.

“Some of the more popular destinations are limited, but if you’re willing to be flexible there are some options at certain locations,” Ms Norman said.

“There are some good options here in Australia, with flights just after Christmas from around $350 return.”

“If you’re wanting to head overseas, there’s availability on flights to Bali, Hanoi and Fiji for a tropical Christmas.

“Bali flights are from around $550 and Hanoi and Fiji from $900.

“Now is the time to book if you want to lock in a last-minute Summer getaway.”
