Additional public transport for ANZAC Day

28 April, 2025

Ahead of ANZAC Day, RAA is encouraging South Australians to be aware of road closures and to take advantage of the extra Adelaide Metro tram, train and bus services running for those commemorating the ANZACs this Friday.

Key Adelaide CBD road closures include:

  • Thursday 24 April, 9:30 am to 1:00 pm – North Terrace (single lane closure, eastbound carriageway) between King William Road and Kintore Avenue,
  • Friday 25 April, 3:30 am to 12:00 pm – Kintore Avenue between Morgan Thomas Lane and North Terrace, and,
  • Friday 25 April, 4:00 am to 12:00 pm – North Terrace between Pulteney Street and King William Street.

A full list of CBD road closures can be found here.

Additional public transport services will help passengers to and from the Adelaide CBD for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service and the Commemorative March, and include free access for:

  • Current and former serving military personnel wearing their uniform,
  • People wearing service medals,
  • People carrying a Department for Veteran Affairs identification card, and,
  • South Australian Seniors Card holders – all day, every day.

Senior Manager Road Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain was encouraging South Australians to take advantage of the additional public transport services.

“There will be a number of road closures in the city on Thursday and Friday, so moving around and parking may be more difficult than usual,” Mr Mountain said.

“We’re encouraging people to utilise the extra Adelaide Metro services to get in and out of the city and familiarise themselves with the road closures.

“If you’re driving, expect additional crowds and commemorations in the CBD – and be reminded some tram services will also be halted from 7:00am to 1:00pm.

“There will be some changes to the tram services with trams from Glenelg to the city stopping at Rundle Mall. Trams will also terminate from the Entertaiment Centre to the city and return at Adelaide Railway Station.

“Botanic and Festival Plaza tram services won’t be operational until after 1:00pm.

“Some Adelaide Metro bus services will be required to detour, while a number of bus services will also stop altogether.”

Mr Mountain also urged drivers to be safe on our roads – with an increased number of pedestrians around.

“Expect a swell of pedestrians on our streets in the Adelaide CBD and for the Dawn Service and the Commemorative March – and drive with additional caution around these areas,” Mr Mountain said.

“Ensure you’re always following the speed limits in place and be reminded there are more than 20 road closures in place across the CBD.”

ANZAC Day is commemorated on April 25 each year, as a way to remember those who served our country.

We acknowledge the sacrifice of all Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli – and pay our respects.

Lest we forget.
