Drivers urged to fill up amid fuel price winning streak

11 February, 2026

Some service stations across Adelaide are selling unleaded petrol for under $1.50 and diesel under $1.60 per litre, prompting an RAA reminder to fill up before prices rise.

The average price of unleaded fuel sits at $1.54 cents per litre as of Wednesday morning, but several outlets are selling 91 ULP for around $1.50 per litre as Adelaide’s 2-3 week price cycle nears the bottom, making it a good time to fill the tank.

Wholesale petrol prices have fallen to around $1.52 cents per litre, down from around $1.65 cents in early December – a shift that is flowing through to retail prices at the bowser.

Diesel prices have also been holding at a lower level, despite wholesale prices rising by almost 10 cents per litre over the same period.

RAA Principal Advisor Energy and Future Mobility Peter Nattrass says lower prices are welcome news for motorists, particularly amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures, but warns the current pricing window may not last.

“Drivers are encouraged to take advantage of lower prices while they are available, as Adelaide’s fuel cycle can move quickly,” Mr Nattrass said.

“Petrol prices can swing suddenly by up to 50 cents per litre, so filling up when prices are low could save $30 on a 60-litre tank, making a real difference to household budgets.

“Adelaide’s fuel market typically moves in a 2-to-3-week cycle. So far this year, drivers have enjoyed a 4-to-5-week winning streak with petrol pricing around $1.50 per litre and diesel $1.60 per litre at some outlets.

“Over the holiday season, South Australian motorists made the most of an extended period of lower fuel costs.

“However, international diesel prices are rising and Adelaide’s petrol fuel cycle has most likely bottomed, so it’s time for households to fill-up.”
