Fuel up now before the long weekend – or buy it in the regions if you miss out

2 October, 2024

Unleaded fuel prices have begun to spike across Adelaide, with long weekend holidaymakers urged to fuel up now if they see a cheap price near them.

Many outlets have put their price up to around $2 per litre as part of Adelaide’s regular price cycle but there are still bargains to be had for around $1.55 per litre.

Drivers are encouraged to use a live fuel price checking tool like the RAA app or website to find a cheap outlet where they can save significantly, with the RAA app alone saving SA motorists an estimated $20.5 million every year.

If motorists heading to the regions this weekend miss out on a bargain before heading away, unleaded fuel is likely to be cheaper in regional centres – so they’re advised re-fill the entire tank once they’ve left the metro area.

Unleaded prices on Wednesday morning

RAA Fuel Expert Mark Borlace said drivers could save almost $30 on the average tank by grabbing a bargain today.

“Motorists heading away for the long weekend should fill up now if they see prices for around $1.55 per litre,” Mr Borlace said.

“Filling up where it’s cheap will save you between $25-$30 on the average tank.

“As of Tuesday afternoon there are still several outlets selling unleaded at the cheaper price, but if you miss out, it’s likely to be cheaper in the regions, where there is no price cycle, this weekend.

“Adelaide’s unleaded price cycle gives you regular opportunities to save if you’re canny and fill up when it’s cheap.

“According to the ACCC, drivers who shop around for fuel in Adelaide are saving $486 per year, which is a win for motorists a time when cost of living is a challenge.”

To find cheap fuel near them, SA motorists can use the RAA app or website.
