Growth without Gridlock remains priority following State Election

23 March, 2026

RAA secured commitments on several key member priorities ahead of South Australia's state election — and with the Malinauskas government returned to office, the state's largest member organisation is focused on ensuring those commitments are delivered and progressing the priorities still on the table.

RAA’s Growth without Gridlock platform — with more than 30 policies and recommendations — outlined a bold vision to support South Australia’s population and housing growth through investment in infrastructure and services that improve our state’s liveability.

Prior to the election, RAA welcomed the state government’s commitment to:

  • Preserve the rail corridor to Adelaide’s north and progress planning for its extension,
  • Extend the real time fuel pricing scheme while bolstering compliance and doubling penalties, and,
  • Invest $12.8 million to formally expand the MetroCard zone to Murray Bridge to make public transport more accessible.

While these commitments are welcome, RAA will continue to pursue other critical policies outlined in its Growth without Gridlock agenda on behalf of its members, including:

  • A $1 billion fund over four years to address the growing road maintenance backlog,
  • Secure funding to progress the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass,
  • Measures to reduce traffic congestion on Main North Road and, Main South Road, and,
  • The duplication of Curtis Road.

RAA Chief Executive Officer Nick Reade congratulated the state government on being returned to office.

“South Australians get the best outcome when government and industry work side by side,” Mr Reade said.

“Over the last four years, RAA has worked collaboratively and constructively with the State Government to deliver great outcomes for all South Australians – like the RAA Charge network and real time fuel pricing.

“RAA again stands ready to work with the State Government and all Members of Parliament to tackle the challenges facing our members and all South Australians.

“The state government committed to some of RAA’s key priorities ahead of the election, including progressing the expansion of the rail network in the northern suburbs and making the state’s real time fuel pricing permanent.

“We look forward to working together to help to shape and deliver on those policies together, but there is more to do.”

Mr Reade said RAA would continue to pursue other key priorities that were not endorsed prior to the election.

“We put forward a range of other policies and ideas that would make South Australia more safe, sustainable and liveable,” Mr Reade said.

“Over the next four years we’ll work with the government and Parliament to bring our Growth without Gridlockvision to life – for the benefit of all South Australians.”
