RAA Travel data has revealed a boom in bookings to tropical Queensland following the finale of ‘The White Lotus’.
The popular series has sparked a jet-setting phenomenon across the globe – with tourists flocking to Hawaii, Italy and Thailand after each season showcased the different regions.
But the Sunshine State is also increasing in popularity amongst South Aussies as travellers look to experience a ‘White Lotus’ moment of their own – without the hefty price tag.
Over the past 12 months, the Sunshine Coast has seen the largest increase of bookings with RAA Travel at 32%. Hamilton Island is up 19% compared to last year and Airlie Beach 18%.
The trifecta of tropical hotspots are a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and also a short flight away for South Australians.
RAA Travel General Manager Gina Norman said RAA can help travellers book the ultimate ‘White Lotus’ experience here in Australia – with offers spanning from adults only to family-friendly.
“We’re marvelling at the real-time effect of ‘The White Lotus,’ Ms Norman said.
“Thailand is currently the seventh-most popular international destination booked at RAA Travel, but we can see many travellers are looking to experience their own ‘White Lotus’ moment without the price tag.
“Inflation since the end of 2022 has risen by a cumulative 14.9 per cent to the end of last year — plenty of South Aussies are feeling the pinch.
“With rising cost-of-living impacting many across the Nation – it’s clear more holidaymakers are searching for a tropical holiday which won’t hurt their wallet.
“And, in just a short few hours you can experience that luxury in your own backyard, without the cost of an international airfare.”
If you’re looking to beat the crowds and explore somewhere undiscovered – Ms Norman said there’s plenty of other options available.
“The White Lotus creator, Mike White, has hinted he wants to set a season on every continent – meaning Africa, South America, Antarctica – and of course Australia – could all be on the cards,” Ms Norman said.
“If you, like many of us, have been entranced by the stunning surrounds of these ‘White Lotus’ destinations, but want to hit the road less travelled, we can cater to your needs.
“We have resort experiences to Phuket and the lesser-travelled Philippines available. We also have all White Lotus properties available to book through RAA Travel if you’re looking for luxury.
“Indonesia is currently South Aussies’ top booked destination – with a 15% increase in bookings from 2023-24 – and we currently have some fantastic deals to this tropical paradise online.”
South Australians don’t have to travel far for their ‘White Lotus Moment’, with closer to home experiences offering the same relaxation, spa treatments, amazing food and gorgeous beaches.
