Need fuel? Shop around today and save

1 August, 2024

Unleaded fuel prices are spiking across Adelaide, meaning drivers who need to fill up the tank could save around $26 today by using the RAA app.

As of Thursday morning, several outlets have raised their prices by 40 cents per litre to $2.09 as part of the regular ULP price cycle – but some still remain cheap at around $1.70 per litre.

It means anyone filling up a 65-litre tank today can save around $26 by finding a cheaper price using the RAA app.

RAA fuel expert Mark Borlace said drivers who didn’t shop around were giving away potential savings.

“Unleaded prices have been below wholesale at many outlets for the past few days, and prices are now spiking across Adelaide as part of the cycle,” Mr Borlace said.

“If you shop around for fuel today and find a cheap outlet new you, you’ll make an easy saving of around $26 – the equivalent of around 5 coffees.

“Use the RAA app and look for the green dots on the map to find the cheapest fuel near you.

“If you miss out on the cheap prices this week, we recommend only filling the tank as much as necessary to get you through until next week, when the prices will begin to return to the bottom of the cycle.

RAA’s latest fuel survey shows live fuel prices are saving SA motorists $20.5 million each year – with motorists who use fuel price apps saving round $26 per month on average.

The survey also shows 53 per cent of drivers check live fuel prices before filling up – compared to just 22 per cent in 2021.
