Plan ahead this Sunday with road closures in place for City-Bay

19 September, 2025

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys to avoid road closures and traffic restrictions this Sunday, 21 September, as thousands take part in the annual City-Bay Fun Run.

Road closures will begin from 4:30am in the city and along the route along Anzac Highway to Glenelg – with some extending until the early afternoon.

Roads with partial closures will include:

  • Anzac Highway
  • West Terrace
  • South Terrace
  • Goodwood Road (West Tce to Greenhill Rd only)
  • King William Street
  • King William Road (city only)
  • Victoria Drive
  • Festival Drive
  • Morphett Street

For full details of all roads and closure times visit the City to Bay website

Participants and spectators are reminded that there will also be no tram service between South Terrace and Glenelg due to the Tram Grade Separation Projects currently underway – instead there will be substitute buses and a dedicated shuttle bus operating from Glenelg to the city.

There will be tram services between South Terrace and the Entertainment Centre or Rundle Mall until 7:30am, but they will only operate between the Railway Station and Entertainment Centre from 7:30am-9:50am. Normal services from South Terrace will resume from around 10:00am.

RAA Senior Manager of Road Safety Charles Mountain has urged drivers to plan ahead and be aware of the event.

“The City-Bay Fun Run is one of Adelaide’s most popular community events, and these road closures are essential to ensure the safety of participants and volunteers,” Mr Mountain said.

“Large numbers of runners and spectators will be gathering along Anzac Highway and at the Glenelg finish line and it’s important for drivers to take extra care, reduce their speed where traffic management is in place, and follow the directions of police.

“With a concentration of runners on key routes and at the finish line, motorists and pedestrians should remain alert of their surroundings and follow speed restrictions should they be in place.

“We encourage people travelling into or through the city and southern suburbs on Sunday morning to familiarise themselves with the closures in advance and allow extra time for their journey.”

Marion Road will also be closed between Cross Rd and Anzac Highway from 9:00pm, Friday 19 September and will re-open 12:30pm Sunday, 21 September. It will then also be closed from 9.00pm Sunday evening before fully re-opening on Monday morning.

These closures are part of works for the Tram Grade Separation Projects and have been timed with City-Bay road closures to minimise disruption.
