RAA is reminding footy fans to plan their journeys to Adelaide Oval ahead of the AFL season starting this weekend in South Australia.
On Sunday afternoon a sea of supporters will descend on Adelaide Oval to watch the Crows begin their 2025 campaign against St Kilda.
Free Footy Express (AO and AOX bus services) will again operate both to and from Adelaide Oval across metropolitan Adelaide for all Crows and Power home games this season.
Trains and trams to Adelaide are also free for ticketholders up to two hours before and one hour after games at Adelaide Oval.
RAA is encouraging fans to use public transport where possible, with limited car parking available in the stadium’s vicinity.
Bike racks are also available outside the North, South and East gates.
More than one million fans passed through the Adelaide Oval gates last season, with the stadium hosting an average of 40,798 patrons– the third highest average attendance of any AFL venue last season.
With a swell of pedestrians and cars expected in the CBD on game days, RAA Senior Traffic Engineer Matt Vertudaches has also urged city-goers to drive safely and follow the directions of police and traffic controllers.
“With thousands of pedestrians around Adelaide Oval on match days, a 25km/h speed limit to again operate on North Terrace – from Morphett Street Bridge to King William Street,” Mr Vertudaches said.
“If there’s an anticipated attendance of 35,000 and above, road closures will also be put in place before and after the event.
“Drive safely and carefully, and be patient when leaving carparks around Adelaide Oval, particularly prior to the match, and at the end of the match.
“Also be wary of heavy traffic and a large number of vulnerable road users around the precinct.
“RAA encourages the use of free public transport to reduce congestion on our roads but reminds footy fans they will need a valid game day ticket to access the free services.
“Regional areas will also have bus services running between selected locations to Adelaide Oval.
“Public parking around the Oval is available for $35 and is subject to capacity and weather – but there are cheaper options if you’re willing to walk or catch public transport from elsewhere in the city.
“If you’re planning on driving a long distance to watch your team play during the season, make sure to take regular rest breaks and share the driving where possible.”
