This year the parade will be led by historic RAA patrol vans from the 1950s and 60s, to mark the return of the state’s peak motoring body as major partner.
The RAA Bay to Birdwood will set off from Barratt Reserve, West Beach from 8:15am on Sunday, and will follow the 67-kilometre route along Tapleys Hill Road, Anzac Highway, Greenhill Road, Fullarton Road, Dequetteville Terrace, Hackney Road and Mann Road towards Collinswood.
The parade will then take to the Hills via North East Road – through Tea Tree Gully, Inglewood and Chain of Ponds – continuing along Torrens Valley Road through Gumeracha to the finish at the National Motor Museum at Birdwood.
While there are no full road closures along most of the parade route, there will be temporary speed restrictions and some lane closures in place at various points.
Road users travelling near the parade route are urged to look out for potentially changed traffic conditions and more vehicles using these corridors than a usual Sunday morning.
A short section of West Beach Road will also be closed from 6:30am to 12pm to allow for the parade to set off from Barratt Reserve, along with other isolated road closures in Birdwood and Tea Tree Gully. Full details can be found on the RAA Bay to Birdwood website.
RAA Senior Traffic Engineer Matt Vertudaches said the annual event was a showcase of automotive history.
“The RAA Bay to Birdwood is an iconic motoring event that celebrates South Australia’s rich motoring heritage,” Mr Vertudaches said.
“With vehicles of all ages taking part in the parade on Sunday, we’re urging anyone in the area to be patient and respectful of the parade as it passes through.
“For participants, make sure you’re driving to the conditions at all times, paying close attention to the road around you and keeping a safe distance from the car in front.
“There may also be changed traffic conditions due to road upgrades taking place on North East Road between Houghton and Gumeracha.
“Whether you’re participating in the parade, spectating or just passing through the area – have fun, be patient and arrive safely!”
RAA members are also reminded they can purchase Finish Festival tickets for 20% off full price.
