The Premier’s Awards in Energy and Mining highlight innovative approaches and cutting-edge technologies that set high-performance standards in the energy and mining industry.
The RAA Charge network was named last night as joint winner of the Environment award, for the role its playing in decarbonising transport in South Australia.
With construction finished in 2025, the RAA Charge network comprises more than 140 charging sites and 550 charging plugs across metropolitan and regional South Australia.
The network has enabled electric vehicle drivers to access key tourism regions with confidence – from the Eyre Peninsula to the South East and everywhere in between.

This has broken down a key barrier to electric vehicle uptake in SA: the availability of charging infrastructure, or ‘range anxiety’.
By breaking down this barrier, it is estimated the RAA Charge network will have contributed to reducing SA emissions by at least 370,000 tonnes of carbon emissions – through powering over 2 (2.13) billion kilometres of EV travel – by 2030.
RAA shared the award with Santos, who was recognised for its Moomba Carbon Capture and Storage project.
RAA CEO Nick Reade said the RAA Charge network had enabled thousands of South Australians to make the switch to an EV and reduce their carbon footprint.
“This award recognises the enormous amount of work that’s gone into building a reliable, accessible EV charging network for all South Australians,” Mr Reade said.
“When we set out to deliver RAA Charge, we wanted to remove one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption — range anxiety.
“With more than 140 locations in all areas of the state, the network has well and truly broken down this barrier for thousands of South Australians.
“With transportation being a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, the RAA Charge network is helping South Aussies play a role in decarbonising personal transport.
“We thank the State Government for recognising RAA Charge with this prestigious award, and for their foresight in partnering with us on the network back in 2022.”

The RAA Charge network has been delivered with the support of the South Australian Government, as a result of RAA winning a competitive grant tender process in 2022.
