RAA Charge set to expand as SA businesses want in on EV charging services

7 November, 2024

Having successfully delivered 142 electric vehicle charging sites in South Australia, RAA is expanding its statewide electric vehicle network in partnership with local SA businesses wanting to invest in EV charging services.

RAA is partnering with the South Australian Produce Market to install five 7kW chargers. The location will provide charging options exclusively for the market community Monday to Saturday and will be open for all to charge on Sundays between 6am – 1pm.

RAA CEO Nick Reade said the RAA Charge network – which is now 99% built and expected to be completed by the end of the year – now holds the market share of EV charging networks in South Australia.

“In two years, RAA has delivered 532 charging plugs at 142 sites located across the state, resulting in the RAA Charge network becoming the go-to choice for EV owners seeking reliable and accessible charging solutions,” Mr Reade said.

“With the initial support of a state government grant, we’ve been able to tackle range anxiety head on and deliver one of the most comprehensive EV charging networks in Australia.

“That network is now close to complete, and we are looking to expand the network under a new partner owned/RAA operated model, with the first new charging site being constructed at the SA Produce Market in Pooraka this month.

“We’re passionate about South Australia and the role electric vehicles will play in the long-term sustainability of our state and decarbonisation of transport.

“The expansion of the RAA Charge network is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our members, local businesses, and the state transition to a low emission transport future.”

Construction will start this week, with the chargers completed and operational by mid-November.

SA Produce Market CEO Angelo Demasi said the South Australian Produce Market is proud to be partnering with RAA – two reputable SA brands delivering a sustainable energy option for our market operators vans and cars.

“In 2019, we pioneered Australia’s first ever microgrid, consisting of a solar system and battery AI managed power grid.  This initiative is a further step in taking advantage of our green energy to produce cheap and sustainable energy options for our market users,” Mr Demasi said.
