The Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) has announced RAA’s electric vehicle charging site at Snowtown is the winner of its national EV charging station award.
More than 84 nominations were received from AEVA members across Australia, with finalists in each state and territory announced in October.
The 200kW Ultra-rapid charging site at Snowtown, located at Perry’s Roadhouse on the Augusta Highway, was selected for its high level of amenities for travellers, including:
Chief Executive Officer Nick Reade said RAA was thrilled to receive an award for its Snowtown charging site, which is one of 142 sites in the RAA Charge statewide electric vehicle charging network.
“Having delivered more than 530 plugs at 142 sites across South Australia, we are incredibly proud of the impact that the RAA Charge network is having in opening our regional roads for EV drivers,” Mr Reade said.
“We’ve taken great care to ensure all our charging sites are not only located strategically along key travel routes and at tourism hot spots, but that they are thoughtfully designed with customers in mind, are close to local amenities, provide adequate safety as well as lighting and security.
“We couldn’t have built this network without the collaboration of our site hosts who shared our vision to be part of South Australia’s first border-to-border electric vehicle charging network.
“Perry’s Roadhouse is an ideal site host and charging location for travellers going to and from the state’s mid-north, providing excellent amenities.”
The network is powered by net 100% renewable energy and comprises of a mix of 7kW, 50kW, 150kW and 200kW chargers, located no more than 200km apart.
Further, 75% of the network is located in regional South Australia, addressing one of the leading barriers to EV adoption in Australia – range anxiety.
President of the AEVA, Dr Chris Jones, said charging sites like Snowtown set the bar for future installations.
“EV drivers want to stop and recharge somewhere nice. Shade, toilets, a cafe – things motorists have come to expect from a service station”, he said.
“The AEVA will continue to advocate for highly reliable, well-serviced, rapid charge points throughout Australia. This is what the public requires to continue with a confident transition to electric vehicles”, said Dr Jones.
The RAA Charge network is being rolled out with the support of the Government of South Australia and is on track to be completed this year.
EV drivers traveling in South Australia can locate their nearest RAA charger, initiate charging, and complete payment, by using the Chargefox app.
