RAA is proud to be leading the transition to sustainable mobility as part of World EV Day today, inviting members and the community to learn more about Electric Vehicle (EV) technology.
Our RAA CEO Nick Reade said the State’s largest membership organisation was poised to play a vital role in greening South Australia’s economy and decarbonising personal transport.
“We recognise electric and zero emissions vehicles are the future here, and around the world,’’ he said.
“RAA is recognising World EV Day with our members and the public and helping to demystify electric vehicle technology and embrace opportunities to reduce emissions from driving.’’
Mr Reade said today was also an opportunity to highlight RAA’s ongoing commitment electric vehicles.
“As South Australians we are incredibly proud of the leadership role our State is playing in the transition to renewable energy and we want to help extend this leadership to the take up of electric vehicles.
An RAA survey released in June revealed most motorists (62%) of the 1500 surveyed were considering switching to an EV when making their next car purchase.
Just this week figures released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries showed the national sale of EVs in August hit a record high.
The figures showed EVs accounted for 4.4% of new vehicles sold, representing the highest market share for pure battery electric vehicles recorded in a single month in Australia.
RAA continues to invest in the transition to EVs, including:
Building the first State border-to-border electric vehicle charging network in the nation with the support of a $12.4m grant from the South Australian Government.
Introducing a new EV/Hybrid Approved Repairer category to set the standards in equipment and skills for an industry leading Hybrid/Electric Vehicle repairer network.
Working with our patrols to ensure they have the most up-to-date knowledge about the new types or cars entering the market so they can provide the best service possible to our members on the roadside.
To mark World EV Day, RAA hosted a pop-up EV information stand where people were able to view one of the EV fleet cars, see how charging works and speak to RAA staff about EVs at RAA’s Headquarters at Mile End South.
