RAA is hitting the road to connect with members and the community in the state’s South East and Murraylands this week, combining the trip with a range of road safety initiatives a bid to reduce road trauma.
As part of RAA’s 2023 Regional Roadshow, RAA President and Chairman Peter Siebels and CEO Nick Reade will be hosting celebratory events for 300 loyal members at Mount Gambier (Tuesday), Kingston (Wednesday)* and Murray Bridge (Thursday) to acknowledge their 50 (or more) years of membership.
Mr Siebels said taking RAA out in force to the regions was an annual initiative to recognise and engage with RAA’s country-based members.
“RAA’s Regional Roadshow is an opportunity for us to connect with our many members based in some of the most beautiful parts of our State,” Mr Siebels.
“The Roadshow also includes a celebratory event to honour some of the 45,000 South Australians who have been a member of RAA for more than 50 years.
“The trip is also a great chance to bring our road safety experts along to listen to residents’ concerns and share their insights with the community.
“Throughout the week, RAA educators will be running vital road safety lessons for students at local pre-schools, primary schools and community organisations. Our traffic engineers will also be assessing key roads in the region and speaking to local stakeholders about the road network.”
So far this year 59 people have lost their lives on South Australian roads (35 of which have been in regional areas) compared with 71 for the whole of 2022.
RAA CEO Nick Reade said RAA’s regional members were an integral part of the state’s largest member organisation.
“With around one in four of our 800,000 members based in regional areas, we’re always keen to learn more about how we can help to make their lives easier and advocate on the issues most important to them,” Mr Reade said.
“It’s why we continue to call for more investment in regional road maintenance, which we know is a point of concern for rural communities.
“It’s also a major reason why we’re rolling out our RAA Charge electric vehicle charging network, to eliminate range anxiety—the greatest barrier to EV uptake—and unlock tourism across our state for electric vehicle drivers.
“I’m looking forward to engaging directly with hundreds of our members in the South East this week and hearing from some of our longest standing members about their experiences with RAA.”
