RAA to sponsor 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge

16 June, 2025

RAA is proud to be a returning sponsor of this year’s Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC), supporting the biennial event’s Village program in Victoria Square /Tarntanyangga this August.

RAA General Manager Home & Energy Ben Owen said events like the BWSC not only put Adelaide on the global map of specialist racing, butare a testing ground for zero emission vehicle technology.

“There are approximately 12,000 EVs on South Australian roads, and industry forecasts this number will increase to 120,000 full battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030,” Mr Owen said.

“Supporting the BWSC is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our members, local businesses, and the state in the transition to a low emission transport future.”

The event – a 3,000km drive from Darwin to Adelaide using solar powered vehicles – comes as RAA completes the state’s first border-to-border electric vehicle network.

The RAA Charge network features over 140 charging stations across South Australia – spanning from Yalata in the west to Marla in the far-north to Mount Gambier in the south-east.

“There’s no bigger advocate for sustainable transport in South Australia than RAA,” Mr Owen said.

“The lack of readily available EV charging infrastructure has long caused headaches for South Australians, but the rollout of the RAA Charge network ensures SA has the necessary infrastructure to meet the demand for EVs.

“With the majority of our charging sites located no more than 200km apart – and 75% of RAA Charge sites are in regional areas – we’re tackling range anxiety head on in South Australia.

Speaking at the BWSC media launch, Event Ambassador, Chris Selwood AM said, “for more than a decade, the event’s title partner, Bridgestone, has showcased its commitment to the growing global demand for sustainable motoring.

“The BWSC also welcomes back RAA, Eagers Automotive, Starlink, Tesla Careers, and celebrates a new partnership with Toyota, the largest automobile manufacturer in the world and pioneer in hybrid and renewable mobility.

“Exciting partner and event program news will be shared in the leadup to the start line.”

The BWSC runs from 24 – 31 August 2025.

RAA and the BWSC will be making further announcements about the activities planned for the Village program in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga in the coming weeks.
