Riverland road repair package welcomed by RAA

6 February, 2023

RAA welcomes the State Government’s announcement of a $60m funding package to assist with repair and remediation of the Riverland road network.

The South Australian State Emergency Service estimates that almost 1,200 kilometres of road have been impacted by floodwater, many of which will need major resurfacing work.

RAA Senior Manager Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain said critical roads in the region needed be restored as soon as possible.

“This funding is a welcome first step to help reinstate an accessible road network for the State’s River Murray communities,” Mr Mountain said.

“Critical corridors such as Bookpurnong Road need to be reopened as soon as practicable as the current detours in place add significantly to the travel times of motorists in the region.

“As more of the impacted network is assessed in the coming weeks the full extent of the repair task will become evident.”

Mr Mountain encouraged anyone driving through the River Murray communities to be patient with what will be extensive roadworks over the next few months.

“Please respect any road closed or road restriction signs in place for your own safety, and to minimise any further damage to the road surface.

“Before driving in the region we recommend you check the Traffic SA website for current road closures and restrictions.”
