It’s the most wonderful time of the year as the Christmas Pageant kickstarts the festive season tomorrow morning – but road users are reminded to plan ahead with a number of closures in place across the CBD.
Some major roads will be closed from the early morning until the afternoon, as more than 300,000 attendees are expected to line the streets for the annual Christmas Pageant.
Key closures include:
A full list of road closures can be viewed at the Christmas Pageant website.
This year’s Pageant follows its traditional route, starting at South Terrace, turning onto King William Street, following the western edge of Tarntanyangga, then through Reconciliation Plaza, Wakefield Street, Pulteney Street, North Terrace, and finishing near the Town Hall.
RAA Senior Manager Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain urged all road users to plan ahead before heading to the city on Saturday morning.
“The Christmas Pageant brings huge numbers to the city each year so road closures will be in place tomorrow morning to keep everyone safe,” Mr Mountain said.
“On-street parking will be as rare as a white Christmas, so check for off-street options and allow plenty of extra time if you’re driving to the Pageant.
“Let public transport be your Christmas miracle with free services and extra trips running throughout the morning – the Adelaide Metro website has a full list of the additional services.
“If you arrive early, wait until the roads are officially closed before setting up blankets or rugs on the street.
“For those not attending, remember there will be several road closures and lots of children around, so drive carefully and don’t let the festive cheer be a distraction.
“The Pageant is a fantastic community celebration, but it’s important everyone plans ahead and drives safely to ensure the day stays merry for all.”
