South Australia’s Riverland set to receive 200kW EV charging station as RAA Charge network nears completion

12 September, 2024

A new RAA Charge 200kW electric vehicle (EV) charging site will go into construction in Renmark this month, with site completion expected just in time for summer – with only one more site remaining to enter construction.

RAA Chief Executive Officer Nick Reade said the new Ultra-rapid charging site, which is capable of charging an EV in as little 10 and up to 40 minutes, would provide EV drivers with a key destination charging stop when traveling between SA and NSW.

“South Australians traveling to the Riverland, and visitors crossing the NSW border from Mildura, will soon be able to recharge their batteries – both mechanical and physical – in one of SA’s iconic Riverland towns,” Mr Reade said.

“Towns like Renmark are incredibly popular over the summer period with holidaymakers looking to enjoy all the activities that our Murray River has to offer.

“RAA’s Ultra-rapid charging station will further support EV tourism and local businesses in the area.”

The new charging station will be located at 238-242 Renmark Ave / Sturt Hwy, conveniently opposite to Renmark Square Shopping Centre.

According to Domestic Overnight Visitation data from the South Australian Tourism Commission, more than 90% of visitors to the Riverland are self-drive visitors.

The new site is part of the RAA Charge statewide electric vehicle charging network which comprises of more than 530 plugs across more than 140 sites, spanning from Yalata in the far west to Mount Gambier in the southeast.

The network, which is now more than 95% operational and on track for completion this year, is one of the most comprehensive charging networks in Australia with no two charging sites more than 200kms apart.

“Following the Renmark site, we will only have one site remaining to enter construction later this year,” Mr Reade said.

“RAA is incredibly proud of the role we are playing in addressing one of the leading barriers to EV adoption in Australia – which is range anxiety.

“By delivering a truly border-to-border network, South Aussies and interstate visitors will have peace of mind that they can travel with ease throughout our great state.”

The RAA Charge network is being rolled out with the support of the Government of South Australia.

EV drivers can locate their nearest charger, initiate charging, and complete payment, by using the Chargefox app.
