RAA Travel booking data shows many South Australians are being drawn to closer-to-home holidays this winter, with SA destinations making up 21% of all domestic bookings.
From cosy Coonawarra cellar doors to the natural beauty of the Flinders Ranges, several South Australian destinations are delivering the kind of experiences people usually travel far and wide to find.
RAA Travel General Manager Gina Norman said winter was one of the most underrated times to explore the state.
“This winter, many SA travellers will be exploring the beauty of their own backyard,” Ms Norman said.
“We’re seeing strong interest in destinations that combine adventure, food, nature and relaxation – and South Australia delivers all of that in spades.
“Wine tours through the Coonawarra are also proving popular – the region’s bold red wines were made for the cooler weather near the fireplace.
“The Flinders Ranges in winter is a bucket-list destination for many travellers, when the days are crisp and clear, and the walking trails can be enjoyed without the heat of summer.
“We still have great availability and value for SA experiences this winter, so if you’re longing for a holiday to break up the year, jump on our website or get in touch with one of our RAA Shops.”
Ms Norman said there were also simple steps travellers could take to keep their fuel costs down on an SA road trip.
“With the Middle East conflict having an impact on fuel prices, a lot of travellers are packing light, carpooling and taking more fuel-efficient vehicles to keep their fuel costs down,” she said.
“Even simple things like removing unused roof racks can improve fuel consumption by up to 15%, as can avoiding any aggressive accelerating or braking (30%) and using cruise control (5%).
“Or for those who’d like to hire an EV to test one out this winter – our RAA Travel team can help them to book the right one for your trip.
“Electric vehicle usage on the RAA Charge network has surged by more than 120% at peak holiday times this year, showing how confident EV drivers are now to explore our regions for less.”
