Tour Down Under road closures begin this week

16 January, 2026

Various road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place across South Australia from 17-25 January, as the Santos Tour Down Under officially gets underway.

These rolling closures and restrictions will occur every day throughout the event to accommodate both elite race stages and community rides.

RAA Senior Traffic Engineer Matt Vertudaches is reminding motorists to check the full list of road closures on the official Tour Down Under website and plan journeys accordingly.

“The Santos Tour Down Under is a major event that brings thousands of spectators and cyclists onto roads across Adelaide and regional South Australia,” Mr Vertudaches said.

“Road closures and restrictions will vary each day depending on the stage location, so motorists should make sure they’re checking closure maps and times before setting out.

“Some areas, particularly around Adelaide’s east end and race start/finish locations, will see closures or traffic restrictions during peak racing times.

“Motorists need to drive to the conditions, watch for event signage, and respect speed limits and temporary closure points to keep all road users safe.

“Whether you’re heading to work, heading out for the day with the kids, or watching a stage, planning ahead and allowing extra travel time helps keep South Australians moving safely and reduces congestion around key race locations.”

“It’s not just about avoiding delays, it’s about everyone sharing the road safely.”
