Motorists need relief at the bowser

30 December, 2024

RAA is urging motorists to shop around for cheaper fuel as the peak of the fuel cycle in Adelaide continues to linger at $1.99 for around a week.

The price of 91 Unleaded petrol in metropolitan Adelaide has been hovering around $1.99 at the majority of petrol stations over the last five days, despite the average terminal gate price (wholesale) being around $1.67.

RAA Fuel Expert Mark Borlace said some petrol stations were keeping prices elevated well above the wholesale price over the Christmas and Holiday period.

“We’re seeing an unusually long peak of our fuel cycle which isn’t leaving motorists with many options to find cheaper fuel,” Mr Borlace said.

“As always, we’re encouraging motorists to use the RAA app to shop around.

“While the majority of fuel stations are offering 91 Unleaded petrol for around $1.99 – there are some retailers offering fuel in the $1.60s.

“That’s about a 30 cent difference which could mean saving almost $20 if you’re filling up a standard 65 litre tank.

“As many families get ready to head off or return from their holidays, shopping around for the cheapest fuel could save them a considerable amount of money.

“Motorists should be using the RAA app to find the cheapest fuel, which has been saving people around $20 million per year at the bowser.”
