Plan your journey and stay safe on the roads this Royal Show

29 August, 2024

With thousands of South Australians set to flock to Wayville Showgrounds from this weekend, show goers and motorists are being urged to watch out on our roads to ensure they arrive safely.

South Aussies are reminded to plan their journeys in advance before indulging in showbags and rides at the Royal Adelaide Show – starting on Saturday 31 August and finishing on Sunday 8 September.

RAA Senior Manager of Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain said the Show can pose additional challenges for road users, with thousands of families and children hitting the streets.

“The Show is a popular event for young families, so drivers need to be particularly mindful of there being more vulnerable road users near the roads around the Showgrounds,” Mr Mountain said.

“There will be 25km/h speed restrictions in place on Greenhill Road, Goodwood Road and Leader Street, so be aware of this and look out for the signs.

“Pedestrians should keep to the footpaths and designated walkways and cross at the dedicated intersections and pedestrian crossings to ensure they arrive at the Show safely.”

Mr Mountain said that while there are parking options available, public transport may be more convenient for many show goers, particularly with expanded levels of services available this year.

“If you’re heading to the Show, public transport is a great option as there are plenty of bus, train and tram stops nearby and you don’t need to find a car park near the Showgrounds,” Mr Mountain said.

“Parking is available in Park 22 which is accessible from Greenhill Road between ANZAC Highway and Goodwood Road, Park 21W which can be accessed from South Terrace between Goodwood Road and Sir Lewis Cohen Avenue and Park 23 which can be accessed from ANZAC Highway.

“Parking in streets in the vicinity of the showgrounds is restricted during the Show to assist pedestrian movement and maintain local access, so always check any parking signs before walking away from your vehicle.

“Cyclists can secure their bikes at designated bike racks available in Rose Terrace and Leader Street.

“With a well thought-out trip, things should all go smoothly and you’ll be lining up at your favourite show ride  in no time.
