Port Adelaide star test drives an electric vehicle

8 July, 2022

Electric vehicles are a hot topic as petrol prices hit record highs this year. More models are coming on the market and the Federal Government has promised to implement an Electric Car Discount policy to reduce purchasing costs.

However, most motorists have never travelled in an electric vehicle (EV) let alone experienced what it’s like to drive one.

RAA marked World Environment Day by inviting a player from the Port Adelaide Football Club to take her first ever EV test drive.

Power AFLW star player Justine Mules caught up with our future mobility expert Mark Borlace to learn more about what it’s like behind the wheel of an EV, what makes them tick and what benefits the technology has in reducing carbon emission in South Australia.

Justine, a star midfielder and triple AFLW premiership player, went for a drive in our RAA fleet EV, manufactured by Port Adelaide Football Club partner MG.

The 27-year-old was impressed when Mark explained to her that EVs produce around 50 per cent less pollution than petrol vehicles in South Australia.

He said EV technology was especially effective in this state, as we produce the greenest electricity on mainland Australia through the extensive generation of solar and wind power.
