RAA Travel interstate bookings are up 67 per cent last month compared to August, as holidaymakers react to the looming lifting of state border bans.
And a survey of RAA members found more than eight out of ten would use a vaccine passport to travel interstate or internationally.
Our General Manager Travel Gina Norman said there had been a huge build-up of demand for travel beyond the state borders during the pandemic.
“This demand has driven the surge in interstate travel bookings we saw last month as people plan ahead for the Christmas and summer school holidays,’’ she said.
“People desperate to see new grandchildren or ageing parents want to get out and are less worried about when they have to return or quarantine status.
“They just want to see loved ones again. Holiday-makers are looking to go from January but the one stumbling block is uncertainty over having to quarantine on return.
“As soon as they lift mandatory hotel quarantine and give some clarity about a test on entry or home isolation, people will book.”
Our member survey also found 63 per cent had travel plans interrupted or delayed due to the pandemic.
And 68 per cent said they would take more interstate journeys once the pandemic was over.
In the meantime, 83 per cent said they would be willing to use a Covid-19 vaccination certificate to travel interstate and 81 per cent for travel to a different country.
Ms Norman said members preferred international travel destinations were Asia, the UK, New Zealand and Pacific Islands and Europe.
