South Australia continues to be a popular holiday destination among our community, despite the lure of interstate and overseas destinations now Covid restrictions are eased.
Families are still flocking to outdoor adventures like experiencing exotic animals while couples are seeking romance in the sky, RAA Travel’s latest bookings data for the past 12 months shows.
Our number one booked Experience is Zoos South Australia, which incorporates Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park.
These experiences are immensely popular with families, as is Gorge Wildlife Park, according to RAA Travel Experience SA spokesman Dougal McFuzzlebutt.
“And they are particularly popular during school holidays,’’ he said.
“Post Covid restrictions, people are looking for experiences that provide access to the great outdoors or are looking to tick off bucket list items”.
These also include the Barossa balloon and helicopter rides, which Dougal said we popular with couples of all ages.
“These two experiences definitely attract a lot of bookings for couples,’’ he said.
“Kangaroo Island continues to be a popular destination, which is reflected in our top ten Experience bookings list.
“During the Covid border closures Kangaroo Island was our only overseas holiday destination!
“The world renown tourist island is always popular with South Australians as self-drive holiday destination via the Sealink ferry.’’
Dougal said he wasn’t surprised at the continued popularity of Popeye and paddle boats.
“Popeye is such an iconic Adelaide experience, often shared down the generations,’’ he said.
“This stretch of the River Torrens is beautiful and traverses a landscape of the city which has changed over the decades and provides a lot of nostalgia for SA residents, whether enjoyed from Popeye or paddle boats.’’
Dougal said he expects that Winery Experiences will pick up popularity in the warmer months with the annual winter hibernation behind us and more people look to learn about our famous tipples.
