RAA’s community grant program open for applications

10 February, 2023

South Australian community organisations can apply for a grant of up to $5,000, with RAA’s Grassroots Giving program now open.

Non-profit community groups can apply for funding to assist with projects that support community safety, disadvantaged children and individuals, environmental sustainability, reconciliation activities and more.

RAA General Manager Community and Corporate Affairs Emily Perry said the Grassroots Giving program had provided 42 community groups with grants totalling more than $175,000, since launching in 2019.

“The Grassroots Giving program reflects RAA’s commitment to improving the lives of our members and their communities,” Emily said.

“Over the past four years we have been able to give back to organisations that make a real difference to communities our State.

Previous recipients have included wildlife rescue groups, SES units and education centres – through to larger organisations like Adelaide Botanic Gardens and Tjindu Foundation.

“On behalf of our members, RAA is privileged to be involved with these programs and support the community at the grassroots level,” Emily continued.

One of Grassroots Giving’s 2022 recipients was United Way SA. The organisation won a grant to support their Imagination Library – a program that provides free books to vulnerable children in the Playford Council area, to help improve their literacy before they get to school.

Imagination Library CEO Emma Brooke said the RAA grant helped supply new book packs to more than 45 families.

“We’re always looking for extra dollars to help us provide as many books to the community as we possibly can,” Ms Brooke said.

“The grant from RAA is helping us supply more than 500 new book packs to children who need them most, so it is going to make a really big impact on the literacy of a lot of children in the area.”

Community groups are encouraged to apply via the RAA website. Applications close on Thursday 9 March and successful applicants will be notified by 9 April 2023.
