South Road surface to be re-laid ahead of major works

26 April, 2023

RAA welcomes a State Government announcement that a large section of South Australia’s busiest road will be resurfaced in the coming months.

A big stretch of South Road is set to be resurfaced this year ahead of major works commencing on the River Torrens to Darlington project in 2025.

The upgrades will begin in May, starting with a 3km section between Glandore and Melrose Park.

RAA Senior Manager Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain said the current road condition was a concern for many motorists.

“The poor condition of South Road is frequently raised with us by our members, so it is welcome news to hear that the surface will be substantially upgraded before the Torrens to Darlington works commence,” Charles said.

“We welcome the fact this resurfacing will be done relatively quickly, meaning motorists can enjoy the benefits of a smoother, safer drive well before the major works are started.

“These upgrades on South Australia’s busiest road ahead of the major construction work will benefit all the road users.”

From later this year further works will be undertaken from Daws Road to Lloyd Street, St Marys, as well as on the northern section of the roadway from Ashley Street, Torrensville to Sir Donald Bradman Drive.

The roadworks will be undertaken at night to minimise disruption.
