The award-winning destination in South Australians’ backyard

10 November, 2023

Recently named by Lonely Planet as #2 on its list of must visit regions in 2024, Kangaroo Island is expected to see a huge influx of tourists over the next 12 months.

Among South Australians alone, RAA Travel bookings to Kangaroo Island are already 220 per cent up to start this financial year.

Despite this, however, there is still availability for travellers to book as escape of their own to the nearby island, according to RAA Travel General Manager Gina Norman.

“This really caps off the return of KI after the devastating bushfires in 2020.

“The latest recognition comes off the back of the top 10 worldwide destinations ranking from New York Times last year, and visitor expenditure in KI is already back at record levels and only growing.

“As always with these types of awards we expect to see a big rush on Kangaroo Island over the next couple of years, but there is still good availability over summer and into next year.

“So if you’re thinking about booking a trip, come in and see one of our RAA Travel experts in our Shops or online.

Ms Norman said travellers loved Kangaroo Island because it is “paradise on Earth.”

“KI is full of beautiful scenery where you can relax and disconnect, and there’s also world-class food, wine and distilleries.

“Of course there are also the secluded beaches, including Stokes Bay which was recently named Australia’s best beach by Tourism Australia

“Then there are amazing self-drive packages you can take advantage of – as well as once-in-a-lifetime experiences like swimming with dolphions and seals.

“So there really is everything you can experience in this one location.”
